If you live in central Canada, or any place that sees snow for more than 4 months of the year, then you know that inner feeling of spring. That feeling that lurks deep within you, trying to inch it’s way out way before the weather permits. It’s that feeling that whispers, “come on, wear that cute pair of crops with your white converse, it’ll be okay,” all the while your picturesque window warns of a sloppy, dirty armageddon that once was known as your neighbourhood street.
So what do you wear when the streets are a mess, the slushy water sprays up the back of your legs with each passing step, and you so desperately want to look cute all the while knowing you might as well put on a hazmat suit?!
Boots!
Totally inspired, right?!
Right.
I’m not kidding. The best way to feel stylish amidst the grossness that precedes the beauty of blossoms and bird song is to throw on a pair of stellar boots. Not just any boot… a boot that makes you feel like a million bucks, even though they may have only been $89.99.
The key here is to get quality.
I’ve been there before… that desire to look cute but save a little cash. You find that killer boot and spend that $40 like you’ve never had shoes before. But then, one trip through the sloppy spring confusion and you wished you had stayed home. I’m not saying you have to spend your entire life savings, but I AM saying that you can get a really great boot for half the price if you search a little.
My go-to? Steve Madden. If I knew Steve personally, I’m pretty sure we’d be best friends. He’s the king of shoes – boots, in particular, and you can get a really great quality boot with all the style you ever hoped for, without completely breaking the bank.
Take these for example:

Sexy, right? AND they have all the curb appeal while still being realistic in terms of heel size. We’ve all been there – attempted the snow and 6″ stiletto mix. Bad combo.
Or these:

I love a good over-the-knee boot. Especially if you’re over 5’8″.
You know what the best part is? Both of these are under $80 on sale AND they’ll last a few seasons. I have my Steve Madden military style boots from 5 years ago that still work great with a casual outfit – sure, they’re a little worn now, but simply because I WORE them. A LOT. Other than that they’ve really held up. Worth the $150 investment.
The biggest thing when investing in a great leather boot is to care for it. If you’re going to invest in a good boot, (or at least partially invest, if you’re getting them on sale) then stop ignoring the shoe sales-person when they suggest the leather protector at the check out counter, and actually buy some. It will save your boots, especially when you live in weather like I do.
And before I go:

These are currently on sale for $349.98.
Hey! A girl can dream!
