I wish you could have seen what I wore in New York.
The outfits I had prepared, carefully selected, rolled tenderly before being placed in my suitcase (because let’s face it, you can fit WAY more in when you roll everything… plus, you avoid crease lines!) were amazing. I’m not kidding you. I was looking forward to rocking the streets of New York and having people stop in their tracks, mouths hanging open, wondering where this trend-setting specimen had been all their lives.
I can see your eyes roll from here.
Okay, so I blended in to the millions of other tourists also attempting to rock the streets, but I was still feeling it.
Despite my impressive planning, no one actually saw those fantastic outfits because it’s spring; which typically means being flexible because a beauty of a day on Tuesday can mean a torrential down pour and freezing wind-chill on Wednesday. And, because we were in New York, we were walking. A LOT. Comfort over and style won this time.
So, here’s a way to still feel put together even when your hopes of donning the world’s most fantastic pieces of summer-time clothing come lurching to a halt.
Wear that incredible outfit (at least you can still feel amazing in it) and pair it with a light and versatile jacket. I suggest something that is longer because these tend to mix well with any outfit, especially now that long, flowy tops are all the rage. (Pairing long, to-the-knee tops with a cropped-waist jacket tend to create the illusion of being more hippy than you actually are)

This great jacket is nearly 5 years old and is from lululemon. It’s super casual, but still works well when pairing with a great pair of Steve Madden boots (see here for more of my love affair with Steve.) Actually, it becomes more dressy because of the boots and bag.
Oh, the bag. Swoon.

Can I just tell you how much I am in love with this bag? Next to my love for Steve, is my love for Marc Jacobs. His bags are to die for classy. While you may nearly break the bank, they are such good quality that they will last for years AND be the focal point to many of your outfits. It’s my opinion that every girl should have at least ONE designer bag. There is something about owning a designer piece that just makes you feel fashionable. (Clearly, I understand that not everyone is in the place to afford these. Heck, I waited two years and saved all my birthday and Christmas money for one.)
I picked this one because of its over the shoulder and over the arm versatility. Plus, larger, slouchy bags also balance out us hippier girls. 🙂
Lastly, the scarf. There’s something about a textured, blanket scarf that adds the volume and color to any out-door outfit and pulls the whole ensemble together. (I picked this one up from Garage.)

See? Just like that, I took what appeared to be the end of my stylish, street walking to a whole new level.
BAM.
Take that New York.
