It’s been awhile. Where has the time gone?
I’ve been asked more than a handful of times over the last few months when I was planning on posting my next post, and I never knew how to answer. It wasn’t that I didn’t have material. Lord knows, I have a list of ideas, but….
this season has been rough
And sometimes its okay to seclude yourself in those times; To hold on to the things that are the most precious to you (insert my family) and let the other things go in an effort to self-preserve. That’s okay.
So in an effort to step forward into the light, my first post back is going to be pretty light-hearted. Back to the basics.
And what’s more basic than the little black dress.

The little black dress is a staple piece that EVERY woman should have tucked inside her closet. Why? Because, it’s timeless. Black never goes out of style, is known to be slimming, lengthens the body and can be dressed up or down with just a few tweaks. It is one of the most versatile pieces you will have in your closet. Hands down.
Plus, it takes you from slobber-covered Mom to sophisticated WOMAN in one simple slip-on dress!
Okay, you know all this. You’ve heard it a thousand times. But how? There are literally thousands of different black dresses and the one that unequivocally turns heads on your uber-fit, gym-loving, hiking-as-vacation best friend would more than likely make you feel like a fluffy muffin. I get it. So here’s a simple trick. Look at your body shape. Go from there. It’s that easy.
Are your hips the most voluptuous part of you? Try a fit and flare dress. The tighter top and a-line skirt focus on the smallest part of your waist and sneakily slenders those beautiful (but oh, so unforgiving) child bearing hips. My current favorite can be found here at Dynamite at a really decent price!
Are you more of an hour glass shape? Meaning your bust and hips pretty well balance each other while your waist is much more defined? Go for a more fitted dress to accentuate those curves or opt for a wrap dress which highlights your waist! I’m currently obsessing over the Bringham dress found here at Artizia.
Or, perhaps you have more of a boy figure, aka, thin from top to bottom without much definition anywhere. I LOVE shift dresses (like this one from RW and CO) on this shape, as they flow so easily and freely.
My personal favorite is the little black dress hung in my closet, found at none other than Reitmans! I would have never thought to look at this store but Meghan Markle has recently collaborated with them and her line is GORGEOUS! Be sure to check out the Meghan Markle collection here as the pieces are stunning and are at a remarkably great price!
Above all, pick something that you feel incredible in. If you feel incredible, you’ll look incredible too. :
